Quartzite and Dolomite
Sometimes referred to as ‘exotic stone’, Quartzite is another stunning natural material (not to be confused with engineered quartz). Quartzite is a good natural worktop option as it is harder and more durable than its competitors, marble and dolomite. Quartzite has the look of a marble but is more like a granite in its composition. However, it is still a natural stone so will require more care than man-made products.
Quartzite is resistant to heat and typically comes mostly in white, with a wide variety of patterning, created by the natural impurities that can be found in this beautiful rock. However, we are now seeing more and more colourful examples of quartzite coming through, which are stunning and would certainly create a huge statement in any space!

Exotic Stone
Finally, there is the lesser-known similar natural stone, and that is Dolomite. Dolomite is a type of natural sedimentary rock found in large, thick areas called dolomite beds. It is made of limestone and magnesium crystals. Dolomite is heat-resistant, pressure resistant and wear resistant. Dolomite is tougher than marble and more resistant to chips and scratches, yet not as hard as a quartzite or granite.
Dolomite is often grey, white or tan in tone and often comes with naturally occurring streaks, giving it the unique wow factor. Both Dolomite and Quartzite worktops will require regular sealing to prevent staining.
